Thousands of rock fans flocked to China's south-western Yunnan province for the Lijiang Snow Mountain Music Festival - billed as China's Woodstock - enduring the traditional festival rain.

The event took music fans to a spectacular setting

Rock fans refused to have their spirits doused and were entertained by hundreds
of bands from all over China

The man called the father of Chinese rock'n'roll, Cui Jian, performed at the
start of the festival

Local musicians from the Naxi ethnic minority in the region were not happy about
the event

Up to 7,000 people are reported to have attended over the two days

Police and paramilitaries were ready for the occasional emergency

But the friendly atmosphere meant riot police could keep dry
